Qualifications for the Diaconate
The deacon will have a strong love for the Church. This love will foster a desire to build up the Church.
The deacon enjoys helping others. He works well with others and enhances the qualities of those with whom he associates. He is accommodating, knows how to relate to others, likes people, gives high priority to church teaching, family values and is sensitive to the feelings of others.
If you are interested in the Diaconate....
+ You must be a Roman Catholic, recognized and acknowledged as a man of faith, who strives to live a good Christian life, exhibiting prudence, moral integrity and steadfastness in his commitments.
+ You have been active in pastoral service for some time exhibiting constancy, zeal, patience, leadership and maturity.
+ You have at least two years of university education or its equivalent.
+ If married you must be in a valid catholic marriage and have a strong marriage relationship. You should be at least 35 years of age at the time of ordination and must have the full agreement and support of your wife.
+ If you have children, they are ordinarily to be 15 years of age or older at the time of ordination.
+ You will normally not be more than 55 years of age.
+ You are able to financially support your family and have a sufficient pension to allow you to offer your services gratuitously, discharging the Archdiocese from assuming any responsibility for financial support.
